THE ART OF LYNN KAYE

From the start of her career, Lynn Kaye, internationally known artist, has always been an innovative painter. As a founder of Cleveland's first co-op artists studio she devised, studied and taught original and often unorthodox painting techniques. It has taken more than 30 years of continued development and experimentation to perfect her "dripping", "layering" and "blow torching". Common terms used to describe uncommon procedures. Kaye's paintings have been shown in solo and group exhibitions and in corporate collections in New York, London, Paris, Tokyo, and, of course, Cleveland, where she was a staple at the Beachwood Museum (now the Beachwood Arts Council). In 1981, she was part of a group exhibition at The Corcoran Museum of Art in Washington, D.C. There, her painting "De Goulinade Trees" hung next to a painting by Georgia O'Keefe. Once, Kaye was even commissioned to paint a top-secret portrait of a princess for a Saudi Arabian king. Lynn Kaye was presented with an unusual challenge by well-known sculptor, Charles Laszlo. A one-piece canvas wrapped and pulled through an armature would become the foundation for some of Lynne Kaye's most exciting paintings. She feels that this breakthrough between painting and sculpture is one of the most important phases of her career. Together Kaye and Laszlo devoted a successful year merging there two mediums. |
