David Lotton

Direct from the artist's imagination, each piece of David Lotton Glass is a new creation. Each one is an individual masterpiece of form and design. The end result is a piece of one man's vision combined with his exquisite technique. David's work is alive with elegance and beauty. Unlike many other artist's studios, we encourage you to visit David's studio to experience the creative process in full swing. Imagine a fiery furnace called a "glory hole" and a piece of molten glass on a rod called a "punty". With a steady rhythm of movement the artist heats the glass and removes the glowing mass to his bench to shape it into it's shimmering finish. Onlookers are fascinated as the artists piece takes on its shape.

Watching David work with his kaleidoscope of colors is an experience unlike any other. David is unique in that he has developed his own formulas for each color. From his vibrant orange-sunset, to his luminous neodymium lavender, each hue is his own distinctive creation, mixed from scratch.

After a days worth of pieces are created, they are annealed overnight. The next morning when the glass is cool, David inspects his work close up. Next, the bottoms are finished in the polishing shop. Only after David has personally seen the piece transform from the molten stage to the finished product does he sign and date each piece.

David Lotton's creations are treasured by art glass collectors throughout the nation. His work is on display at many fine galleries and museums including the Corning Museum, the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum, the Newark Museum and the Houston Museum of Fine Arts.
